Abstract
There exist two applications of the Lorentz force in electromagnetic propulsion: the Lorentz Rail Accelerator and the magnetoplasmadynamic thruster. For rail accelerators inductance gradient reigns supreme. For both, the apparatus’ geometry is significantly important. This paper aims to unify two theoretical perspectives of the application of the Lorentz force. Through the design of a scaled LRA, the study also seeks to note the effects of certain parameters on the performance and efficiency of the system.
